Online Learning Update 26 March 2020
Kia Ora Koutou Pokeno School Whanau,
Our amazing teachers and support staff have worked hard today to developing online learning opportunities for our children and families. Teachers have created a wide variety of activities to not only support children with their learning but will also provide families with ideas of things to do in the four weeks while being isolated within your homes.
It is important to remember that they are suggestions. They are not a list of tasks you are required to complete within a certain time.
We acknowledge that the next four weeks will be tough. Creating routines for your children will help them to be settled during this time. Children (and many adults) thrive on knowing what is coming. Spend some time as a family developing a routine or timetable, get the children to decorate it and put it in a place where everyone can see it. This will also help if adults in the house are still required to work from home.
Remember, you are not teachers, and you are not home schooling your children, so don't place that pressure on yourself. But every time you engage with your child and listen to them read, read to them, support them to write a story, help them learn their sight words, do a jigsaw, play a board game or bake some muffins, you are helping them to learn.
The most important thing is to look after yourselves and your family. Well being comes before any learning, so if children are tired allow them to rest.
Please stay safe, stay home and follow the guidelines from the Ministry of Health and our Government. If you need any information please use www.covid19.govt.nz
We have an amazing group of children who love being part of our learning community and enjoy everything school has to offer. At Pokeno School children participate in new learning across all areas of the curriculum, and a wide range of sporting events. They enjoy visiting performers, trips, camps, and being part of the wider Pokeno School community.
The experiences our children have are made possible by the enthusiastic and dedicated staff. Teachers, teacher aides, the school secretary and caretaker all contribute to what makes Pokeno School such a great place to be.
We have a very supportive Board of Trustees. They work hard behind the scenes ensuring the governance of the school is managed in a way that always puts the children first. In addition to the Board of Trustees we have an extremely hardworking PTA. Although this group is relatively small they are committed to raising funds that can be used to enhance the teaching and learning programmes for our children.
We hope you enjoy looking around our website and learning more about our great school.
