Kia Ora, everyone! Kamusta?
I'm Maria Rushell Zinampan, but you can just call me Shelly. I've had an amazing journey teaching in primary schools back in the Philippines and as an ECE teacher in Singapore. My family and I made the big move to New Zealand in July 2022, and I absolutely loved my time as a Kaiako at Urban Explorers Pokeno for the past two years. This is my first experience teaching in a primary school here, and I feel so blessed to be at Pokeno School. Being new, I'm really looking forward to making new friends and jumping into all the exciting experiences that lie ahead!

Kia Ora, I'm Julia van der Sluis. I am a part of the Kiwi Whanau teaching our year one children. This is my first full year at Pokeno School, as I have spent the last 14 years in Early Childhood Education. I am excited to grow my teaching skills alongside primary aged children.
I believe that for a child to truly learn, they first need to know they belong. My teaching philosophy centers on building authentic connections and a vibrant classroom culture where every student is encouraged to thrive. I love creating hands-on, purposeful learning journeys that challenge my students to think deeply, stay curious, and grow into the best versions of themselves.
When I’m not at school, my world revolves around my family in Pokeno. I’m a proud "girl mom" to two daughters and love nothing more than a weekend in Taupo or somewhere new. My happy place involves a mix of travel, a good book, some home baking, and as much time in the water as possible!

Kia Ora!
I’m Rojean Muller, originally from South Africa and immigrated to New Zealand in 2023 with my husband and our two boys.
I’ve been at Pokeno School for a year now, and I absolutely love being part of the amazing Kiwi whānau team! Before joining Pokeno, I worked in Early Childhood Education, which sparked my passion for helping young learners grow, explore, and shine.
When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll usually find me baking up something sweet, enjoying the beach, or spending quality time with my family and friends.

My name is Sabhyata, though most people know me as Saby. I’m originally from India and have been living in beautiful Aotearoa for over ten years. I now live in Pōkeno with my husband and our two lovely children.
I have a strong passion for working with children and feel privileged to be part of their learning and development journey. Watching tamariki grow, explore, and gain confidence brings me great joy and purpose. I believe in creating a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child feels valued and encouraged.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my family—whether we’re enjoying the outdoors or simply relaxing at home together.
