Meet the Team
Deputy Principal, SENCO
I have a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Waikato. I initially began my teaching degree in the Secondary programme which would have seen me graduate with a double degree in Science and Education. However, when I saw the enthusiasm and excitement for learning in my friends who were enrolled in the Primary degree I asked to be transferred – it was absolutely the right decision. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 20 years teaching in Franklin primary schools and have been fortunate enough to have been teaching Year 7 & 8 and Year 5 & 6 learners at Pokeno School since 2007.
Despite the New Zealand curriculum offering so many vehicles and avenues for learning and for our Ako (learners) to achieve success I am most passionate about teaching and learning in English, Mathematics and Physical Education. At the Year 6, 7 & 8 level I believe that it is essential that we support learning and challenge the learner in order to develop the key competencies needed for study, work, and lifelong learning; students who will become confident, connected and have the skills, knowledge and values to participate in their
communities and the wider world.
We strive to enable all our Year 6, 7 & 8’s learners in Room 8 with the tools that they will need in order to leave a legacy of growth and change that not only our school community but the Pokeno community will look back on positively.
He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people! It is people! It is people!
