Board of Trustees
Bevan recently moved to Pokeno from the hustle and bustle of Auckland with his wife Karen (who is a teacher at Pokeno School) and their two young children Ava and Nate. They love the community and are liking the friendly nature of the residents and village feel Pokeno has to offer.
Bevan stood for the board of Pokeno School as he has a background in property management having managed Golf Courses for 20 years, with the expected growth of the school in the future he believes he can offer expertise in this area. Bevan is looking forward to the challenges ahead that being on the board at Pokeno School will entail.
Subha, Anand and their daughter Aanvi moved to Pokeno almost a year ago. She is very passionate about supporting this great school and our new community.
She is grateful for the strong friendships she has forged within the community in this short time. Subha is also one of the Trustees of the newly formed Pokeno Medical Charitable Trust. Giving back to the community in ways small and big is very important to her. She grew up in India and completed her law degree there. She worked there for a number of years as a lawyer before moving to New Zealand in 2010. She re-qualified to be a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand and currently works as a Corporate Lawyer at a large Australasian Insurance Company in Auckland.
In her spare time Subha can be found baking, making homemade chocolates, reading and dreaming about traveling every corner of New Zealand! She brings wither strong legal skills, knowledge and understanding of the regulations, offering a genuine values driven and strategic leadership
Dean has been a part of the Pokeno School Community since 2015 and he sees that having this opportunity to be part of the Board is a real privilege.
Dean feels that his role on the Board is to first and foremost to serve the best interests of our children’s education and development, but it is also a great medium to represent each family’s interest in the development of their school, their community and most importantly, their children’s enjoyment in learning.
Dean and his wife Emma already have two sons who attend Pokeno School and in the future, their daughter will also join the fold.
Hi, I am PJ Jacobs. My wife, Ronel and I are originally from South Africa, yet New Zealand has been our home for nearly 11 years and we are proud NZ Citizens and All Black supporters.
We have 2 gorgeous Kiwi children, Janelle (7 years old) and Keenan (5 years old). They both are in Pokeno School and love their school, teachers, friends and of course the new playground!
We have been living in Pokeno for the last 3 and a half years and immediately fell in love with this warm and welcoming community.
My professional background is in IT. I hold a Bachelor Degree of Science majoring in Information and Knowledge Systems from the University of Pretoria (South Africa).
I have lived in Pokeno for the last 10 years. I am married to Wendy and we have one son attending Pokeno Primary.
My background is that I am a Printer by trade and now work for the Corrections Department and sad to say a loyal Warriors fan.
Having our son at the school prompted my application to be on the board wishing to assist with the growth of the school and ensure ongoing improvement in student achievement.
I am very proud to be part of Pokeno School Board and Community.
My name is Karen Houghton and I fill the role of Staff Trustee on our Board.
I decided to stand for this position because I feel passionate about Pokeno School and wanted to be a part of the Governance Team as our school grows and changes. I bring my experience as a teacher to my role, and also my experience as a Team Leader. Being on the Board is an exciting way to be more involved in the running of the school and I am enjoying this new role I have taken on.
As Principal of Pokeno School I feel very fortunate to be working alongside such a dedicated Board of Trustees. The Board have an excellent understanding of the Governance role they play within the school and are focused on supporting our children and staff.
