Pokeno School

welcome to room 5

Hi I am Miss Fraundorfer, but the children call me Miss F. I love teaching the children at Pokeno, and working alongside the community to provide the best, most enjoyable learning experiences for our Tamariki, in order to help them adorn their feathers and fly into the future that they deserve.

Miss F and Biscuit

One of my absolute passions in life is animals especially horses! Here I am on Biscuit. I have been riding since I was 5 and would not be able to give it up for any thing!

Charlie Bob, Barney Bear and Toby

Toby is Miss F's dog. She has had him for 11 years and is sad that she has had to leave him at her mum's house in Tauranga! He is always happy for me to come home most weekends and take him with me when I go and ride my horses. He also loves having Charlie Bob and Barney Bear come home for a visit and a wash every school holiday.

Charlie Bob is here babysitting Miss F's nephew. He LOVES adventures! That's why he chooses a special child to come home with each weekend ( Star of the week) and enjoy some special one on one time with a deserving child- He always is keeping an eye on our children and helping them make great choices at school and also likes to help with their learning.

Charlie Bob is resting in the school holidays after Miss F gave him his special bath.

Wow! It is term 4, 2018 already! We are learning about other cultures around the world this term for our topic. We are studying this through "the arts"- dance, drama, music. We are also learning about celebrations around the world in social studies. We are having a rotation in the Ruru Whanau every Friday and get to go to different classes to learn. Miss F is teaching Ruru Whanau about different types from around the world. Here is some of Room 5 dancing last week:

Afternoon Story

At Pokeno School we are lucky to have Ms Flint working in the library and room 5. She loves to read us stories!

The boys have been playing 'motor bikes' most play and lunch times in the sand pit! This is their massive jump they built together! Team work at it's finest!

Room 5 has been lucky to have two buddies from room 8 coming in after morning tea on a Friday to read to us and ask us some questions about what we have read together.

Ava, Yasmin and Janelle are enjoying the sun and using chalk to draw. This is great for developing their fine motor skills! and also great for having some fun together!

Guided Reading

Here Billy is reading together with his reading group the Smurfs. We were reading The night is a blanket.

Visualising

The Smurfs reading group has been working hard on comprehension strategies. The last week we have been focusing on visualising-  being able to create pictures in your mind as you read (like your own private movie) This helps the reader understand and comprehend what they have read.

Phonics- here is one of our daily phonic's lessons. We practice the sound letters make and what words we know that have the sound or 'phoneme' in it. Having this skill really helps us with your reading and writing of new words.

Te Reo- We have been focusing on commands and actions in Te Reo. Here Room 5 are learning 'oma' (run) safely in class. We have a song playing to help us with our learning.

Term 2- Winter

Miss F likes to give us lots of different ideas and prompts to help us come up with ideas for our writing. We liked watching the news on Kiwi Kids News about all the cold, stormy, snowy weather this winter. Miss F showed us this picture of a frozen leaf on her car. We really enjoyed looking at this and talking about how, and why the leaf is frozen!

Term 2- Space Day!

In Room 5 our Learning to learn topic is Space! And our goals are the stars! In Room 5 "We blast off~ to reach the stars (our goals)". We wrote about it and then we ate it!! Yum!
